Ideas are everywhere – especially when you’re contemplating improvements to your home for sale or your wish list for a new home. But how to sort, save, and share every last one of them? Try Pinterest!
Pinterest is a pinboard-styled social media photo sharing website. The service allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections – think bulletin boards, just online instead of on a wall. The site’s mission statement is to “connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting.” And it’s a great way to share the vision of your ideal new home with a realtor – “I want a deck like this one!” “Thisis the kitchen of my dreams!” Or with a decorator “Check out these window coverings!” “I adore these sofas!”
Pinterest users create themed boards, filling them with media found online using the “Pin It” button, or uploaded from their computers. Each item is called a “pin,” and can be a picture, a video, a discussion, or a product. Pins can be grouped into “boards”, which are sets of pins focused on a specific topic. So, have a board for home for sale, another for new home, or one for every room in the house you’re your yard too!). You can even use it on our iPhone.
To register for Pinterest, you must receive an invitation from a friend already registered on Pinterest (ask me!) or request an invitation directly from the Pinterest website. The registration process currently requires users to link their Pinterest account to their Facebook or Twitter account. Users choosing to log in via Facebook must be using or switch to Facebook’s “Timeline” format.
But it’s not just a place to put your ideas, it’s a place where you’ll find ideas too. One of the coolest things about Pinterest is the ability to see what others have pinned, and in turn, “re-pin” what you fond to your own boards. You can even follow other Pinterest users, including those “Tastemakers” suggested by the service.
So, whether you’re planning to redecorate, remodel, buy, sell, or all of the above, try using Pinterest to keep your ideas informed and in order!
