In past blogs, I’ve talked quite a bit about staging your home for sale. It’s a popular – and important – topic; there are even entire TV shows dedicated to it. And, especially for those of you on a budget (and these days, who isn’t?), this is the perfect time of year to do it.
All that Spring cleaning that you just finished likely yielded a few boxes full of stuff you no longer want or need. The same holds true for your neighbors and their neighbors and friends and neighbors all over our area. And that means, it’s yard sale time!
A friend of mine, who is downsizing to a smaller home appropriate for an empty nester, just sold nearly an entire home’s worth of furniture and accessories for a song! You should have seen the king-size bedroom set! And this isn’t a one-off occurrence. Deals like this abound!
So, keep your eyes peeled for yard sale signs. Check Craigslist for yard sale near you and furniture and decorating items for sale. I had one client recently score a set of coordinated lighting fixtures to replace the outdated ones in her home for sale. With that $100 purchase, she saved a ton of money and crossed an item off of her home for sale staging to do list.
Take a peek in your local papers too, and check out the iPhone app YardSale. Enter the date and a map of your area will appear with yard sale locations marked. Check details, map directions, and plan your yard sale-ing strategy.
And don’t forget, the number one to do on any home for sale staging list – DECLUTTER! So, you might want to schedule a yard sale of your own!
